disclaimer

I, AllaganFrills, am not affiliated with any creator, discord or other association/organization mentioned or linked within this entire website. My affiliated sites can be found here. Otherwise, I am an unrelated and entirely unbiased entity with a passion for archiving and organization. Any guide or resource linked on this site is backed up and archived. Feel free to reach out if a guide or resource is broken or removed. To Creators:
I will remove any guide or resource of yours linked if you request, but I will not allow you to gatekeep knowledge. As such anything I remove at your request will be marked on the public changelog as a request for removal, AND it will stay archived within my public information google drive link. These are my conditions.
If you make knowledge public, it should stay public AND EASILY ACCESSIBLE to people who aren't aware of your existence. If you prefer I direct link another source (with the exception of vague or non-direct links like "just my whole twitter" or discord) for your guide, I will comply but my previous conditions remain. The point of Elsewhere is to contain the hiveminds knowledge into one easily accessible spot, rather than spread across the internet, so that the community can learn and create freely without restriction. I have no nefarious purpose, no evil intent. If a handful of people learning your tips, tricks and discoveries causes you harm, monetarily or otherwise, then you have no place in a community built off of creativity and discovery, of thousands of hours of experimentation and learning.

THINGS TO NOTE.

  • Some creators do not wish to be associated with each other. All guides and subsequently their creators are Not affiliated with me or each other because they're featured on the same website. Please use common sense. Do not reach other to creators asking for help with someone else's guide or resource.

  • Elsewhere is entirely unbiased. This means i do not separate creators based on their actions or words. I judge them soley on if their guide or resource is useful or complete. Please do your own research on creators. I WILL NOT "UN-SUPPORT" ANY CREATOR Except those featuring or engaging in Pedophilia Lala-lewding or other inappropriate minor persons related content.

  • I do this for free and in my own downtime. If something is incomplete or missing, please allow me ample time to do it. You're welcome to submit a support ticket or DM me on twitter, but I retain all rights to ignore you

  • This website is intended to be entirely accessible, which is why my own guides employ a primarily longform format, lessened the amount of clicks required to find information, and have done my best to make the colors compatible with any form of colorblindness. I will in the future include short form, bite sized options for the information and guides found here as well. If something causes you stress due to disabilities or lack of accessibility, please contact me to let me know.

  • I am personally Pro-Pirate, but I'm also Pro-supporting-my-artists. I will never discourage someone from supporting an artist. That being said, there are several links to the Restricted section scattered around the site. You will be given a warning prior to entering that area. If you prefer to stay ignorant of the content within, you will be given the chance to turn around. I am not responsible for any trouble you get yourself into.

Frequently Asked Questions.

No-one asked, I just don't want to answer.

Q: Hey, this thing is wrong or missing/broken!A: send the report hereQ: I want my stuff posted here! How do i make that happen?
A: Well, do i have some good news for you! I recently added a contact form I wonder how many more times i can post this link before you realize its there... SO you can send me your shit!
Please include the following:
-A direct link to the guide or resource (gdrive, xma, personal website, etc) NOT the twitter etc link that then links to the guide or resource.
-A name to credit OR anonymous (if: the guide belongs to and was written by you, and you dont want your name attached to it. See the contact form for more information.)
Your guide or resource will be backed up and added to my public gdrive.
If you have updated or moved a guide, please link it to me again so i can update my archive
Q: This person is a bad person, you shouldn't post their stuff here!!
A: this is first and foremost a gathering place for information, but its also an archive. I DO NOT "un-support" any creator except for creators that actively and loudly engage in Child Pornography, Pedophilia, Lala lewding, or otherwise promote and use minors and minor coded characters in NSFW or even remotely suspicious ways. If that person has documented proof against them to those ends, contact me and I'll handle it. Also reread the disclaimer, because that's also incredibly relevant to this question.
Q: This Creator said not to post their links/resources anywhere! You're breaking their boundaries!
A: Boo-Fucking-Hoo. If the creator wants it removed they can reach out to me themselves and we can have a genuine conversation about why I disagree, then I might be willing to remove it if they agree to my terms. I will only remove something if the owner or administrator reaches out to me directly. I am nearly in my 30's, we can have a conversation like adults.
Q: Your restricted section is problematic/shouldn't exist.
A: I repeat. Boo-Fucking-Hoo. My restricted section gives you plenty of warning and disclaimers before going into it. It's the age old "If you don't want to see it don't look at it. " approach. The restricted section gives people access to tools, creations and resources they wouldn't usually have access to. capitalism is a bitch and i wont allow knowledge and resources to be gatekept by anyone let alone multi-billion dollar companies and whatnot. As for BB and other LLP run groups, i don't own them, not my shit show, not my problem, and if the owner wants me to remove it i will, but something tells me that wont be an issue.
Q: LLP/Booty Bay/AH this or that!
A: if your complaint or questions involve any of the pirate groups....They're not involved in the creation and administration of Elsewhere, leave them out of my dms. I will not handle emails about LLP(& etc.). If you have an issue with me, them or my involvement with them you can reach out to me in telegram so I can promptly ignore you.

MORE COMING SOON.

BEFORE WE BEGIN.

Hi, I'm Firma, and I created Elsewhere Archive because I've been where you are. I was excited to boost my creativity and expand my story in Eorzea, but I had nowhere to start. I've been modding for well over a year now, and I've learned some information that most people don't bother teaching modding sprouts. This guide will cover the unspoken rules of modding, how to set up third party tools and install aesthetic mods, and even cover some of my favorite third party tools and plugins. I will also include a section specifically catered to accessibility plugins so that we can all play this game in a way that's comfortable and non damaging. For accessibility purposes, Important information will be highlighted in pink so if you're a skimmer or ADHD like me, you can be sure you're catching the most important stuff. Before we get started, Lets go over some of the rules of modding and important information that you NEED to know before beginning.

THE LAWS OF MODDING.

First things first, MODDING FFXIV IS AGAINST THE TOS AND CAN RESULT IN A BAN. But! While they set the rule in place, the devs and whatnot are very aware of us, and know all of our sites, reverse engineering, plugins and whatnot and how we do it. They know our lingo, the ways we reach out to like minded community members, and they see us. IF YOU SAY NOTHING, THEY'LL DO NOTHING. They let us do as we please as long as it doesn't affect them, the game or otherwise result in lawsuits. In fact, they're lowkey pulling inspo for QOL features and clothing trends from the modding community. Here's a few rules you should keep in mind at all times when engaging with the community both on social media and in game:

  • Do NOT mention or talk about mods, modding, or websites/plugins used in the process of modding in any public in-game chat. Some people even warn against using tells and private linkshells. The first rule of Fight Club: Don't talk about Fight Club

  • You are not better than anyone just because you use mods or plugins. Console and Toaster (laptop) players cannot mod the game, and already suffer enough, don't be rude.

  • Do NOT post modded images or text with your full in game name and world visible. Block out your last name, at minimum, when posting screenshots (you can do this in-game with character configuration settings), and don't put more than your WOLs first (last is pushing it) name on socials.

  • Do NOT stream/record with plugins, mods OR Re-shade active. Re-shade can be less detectable, so I can forgive that, but if you play on stream or video with mods active, even if your name isn't visible, you're asking for a ban and i have no sympathy.

  • And I don't think I have to say it, but don't tell people you don't trust that you have mods in game, or include terms that hint you mod in public In-Game spaces. (I have the urge to publicly shame people who do this. It's common sense.)

WHAT DO I NEED TO MOD MY GAME?

The Modding scene is constantly evolving, and new tools are being developed constantly, but I'll list the best ones for you here to get you started, along with pros and cons of any optional stuff. Keep in mind that this is a comprehensive list, but even I'm not perfect. I might miss things. If you find a tool that seems to be helpful or fills a gap, please send it to me :)That being said, while I'm giving options, the rest of my guide will assume you're using the required list, instead of the alternatives. The reason I'm handling it this way is because I want you to have options, but by taking the alternatives, you're missing out on all sorts of opportunities and quality of life options. Using my recommended setup allows you to share your characters modded appearance with select friends, alter and edit things without needing to open and close your game constantly, etc. Taking the Alternative tools limits you to not sharing the fit with friends, closing the game because your makeup texture isn't quite working (for one reason or another) and of course, locks you out of using all sorts of third party tools that otherwise would be of great benefit. Plus a lot of 3rd party tools now require this recommended setup.

RECOMMENDED TOOLS

These are the Primary tools used for xiv modding. You'll need these at minimum to get most mods working. As always do research into these options, but I'm going to do my best to explain what everything is and why we need it.

  • XIVLauncher: A separate launcher dedicated to plugins, faster launching, autologin, and More. Within the launcher is the core Addon called Dalamud, which is the framework for other Plugins and addons and is responsible for making all the doodads work in your game safely. Read the Github for more info and the FAQ to assess the risks of this particular option. This is the primary launcher used by aesthetic modders, animation modders, Gpose enthusiasts, and cheaters alike. Consider it the hold grail of xiv 3rd party tools.

  • Penumbra: a much more user friendly mod loader run through the Dalamud XIVLauncher which makes it virtually undetectable on updates, less likely to break than other options, and easy to use once you understand what you're looking at. Find it in the Sea of Stars Repository. It does NOT come preloaded on Dalamud.1

  • Glamourer: A plugin run through the Dalamud XIVLauncher used to apply clothing, items, dye etc. onto your character. This has alot of customizability options for your character and can even be used to replace your character entirely with another race if you wanted. Its required for Penumbra to function. Also in the Sea of Stars Repository.1

ALTERNATIVE TOOLS

  • Textools: A separated mod loader software that is highly inefficient for general gameplay, but is still handy to have if linked to a backup game file saved somewhere else. Generally not used by most of the community because of all the drawbacks, but can be used when Dalamud is down post-patch. (also comes with some risks of breaking your game which COULD be detectable, but not proven to be) Mostly used by Mod makers to pack mods into one little modpack for you to install, so you really don't need it unless you want to make any major edits. Most if not all of it can be done through Penumbra.

Textools and Penumbra CANNOT BE USED TOGETHER, without shattering your hopes and dreams, crashing your game, and eating the last chocolate pudding when you're most looking forward to it....

OPTIONAL TOOLS

  • Re-Shade: A generic post-processing injector for games and video software that adds all kinds of lighting effects and color grading/filters to your game. In Layman's terms, it gives you your own pretty filter moment with all sorts of color grading, filters, frames lighting etc. It's incredibly helpful for visually impaired people to make adjustments for color blindness and even just bump the brightness. I basically can't play without Re-Shade anymore honestly, and it's fully customizable to whatever you want your game to look like. It also works on tons of other games.

  • G-Shade: an alternative to Re-Shade. This is actually just a fork of Re-Shade, focused on boosting the UI to be more user-friendly and easier to set up. Just a warning, it has quite a history of having once included malware as apart of the software download, and has since lost the majority of its user base. It's not compatible with Re-Shade which I recommend using instead.

  • Anamnesis: A standalone posing/camera tool for use in posing. Most features are locked behind Gpose to avoid malicious use, but it's still handy for trying things on and has a pretty straight forward interface for posing. From what I understand, it's slowly being replaced by a Dalamud plugin, Ktisis, but it offers features that the plugin doesn't so it's worth keeping around at least. I personally use both depending on my mood and needs..

Photo cred: @SilverTB_XIV

1Dalamud has very strict rules on what they allow into their repository because directly altering the files in your game comes with risks. Its basically a safety measure to minimalize the risk of actions taken by Square Enix.

SEA-OF-STARS REPOSITORY

For Aesthetic/clothing and other character customization mods you'll need the SeaOfStars Repository, Which can be found in the Reniguide managed and created by Serenity! This will give you access to the following Plugins through Dalamud:

  • Penumbra - The basic mod loader, cant have mods without it.

  • Heliosphere - a mod archive that connects to penumbra for easy installing and automatic updating. Requires Penumbra.

  • Glamourer - needed to apply mods from the Penumbra interface as well as required by Mare.

  • Mare Sync - Let your friends see your mods, and vice versa. A pain to set up but worth it to show off how hot you look to your friends, or goof off with modded emotes. Requires penumbra AND glamourer.

  • Heels - you can offset your height for heel mods so your toes aren't tasting the underside of concrete. Can be Synced over Mare.

  • Customize+ - Additional scaling to fully customize your character! Can be Synced over Mare.

  • Palette+ - Additional color customization beyond the scope of the games usual color lineup. Can be Synced over Mare.

(Update 2/6/24 as of sometime LAST MONTH, Palette is no longer compatible with Glamourer. As Glamourer now covers the same uses as palette! It causes color discrepancies on sync, and other issues, so unless you know what you're doing or aren't using Mare, it's best to leave palette alone for now!)
ANY ACTIONS TAKEN WITH THE PREVIOUS PLUGINS CAN BE SEEN BY ANYONE LINKED TO YOUR MARE ACCOUNT, ONCE ITS LINKED
The Following plugins while included, are Gpose Mode Only

  • Ktisis - Gpose Posing tool to get those perfect shots and move them bones. I recommend playing with both Ktisis and Anamnesis and deciding which of the two you enjoy more. Not really compatible with Anamnesis.

  • Brio - Load extra characters into Gpose for group shots. Works as if there was another person there with you and great for loading MCDF's from Mare.

(Update 2/6/24: as of Right now, Bro is no longer under development and is only maintained by a third party due to some "Drama" between the Brio and Ktisis devs. Asgard is no longer maintaining or updating Brio, so it may be lost upon the release of Dawntrail. )

Porting from other games.

Note: This section contains information regarding Ripping assets from other games, which is technically classified as theft. But chances are, If you're porting from other games, you don't care. Given that 90% of mods are made from assets retrieved like this and its a common practice in the modding scene, I didn't find it necessary to hide this behind the restricted section. Still, please be kind about TOS.
and don't even bother touching Second life, they will not hesitate with the legal proceedings
Just remember, chances are, if you have to "rip" anything, its probably not entirely legal. then again neither is modding xiv

For safety and legal reasons, no other guides will be added for ripping and porting from other games. If what you're looking for isn't here, I suggest checking out the Modding101 discord server, as there are certain resources there that are better left out of Elsewhere. Alternatively, I suggest taking a dig through Elsewhere's archival google drive for anything that might be of use. As always, everything I find ever is archived there in case of emergency/takedowns. I'm merely refusing to put the front end of Elsewhere in any more negative light while still maintaining its core values and respecting the TOS of other games to the best of my ability.

changelog.

Last Update:

4/12/24

Here i will keep track of all changes made since the start of the website. that includes guides and resources added and removed, and any significant change to the website, like new pages. I will not includes broken link fixes and the like unless it was due to a creator removing or breaking their link. if a link doesn't work, try the archive link before contacting me

Photo creds: Anon

Updated 4/12/24

  • Added:

  • Two guides by Scherana, Material reassignment and editing glowing textures with AL both in theri respective category under Skin&Texture.

  • Rearranged the Skin&Texture page adn added two new categories, Glow&ALumi and Materials&Texture to account for alot of guides upcoming.

  • Made small backend adjustments for the Gpose page to account for upcoming guides because i came into a wealth of knowledge (thanks to the Anonymous person who snatched a copy of all of them and thrust them upon me like an avalanche of information???)

Updated 4/7/24

  • Small update!

  • Added a new tab under Compendiums: Playlists, for various youtube playlists of useful videos.

  • Added Scheranas Guides playlist under Compendiums->Playlists

  • Added Yuria's Penumbra Guides 2022 playlist under Compendiums->Playlists

  • Corrected some spelling and backend errors.

  • Removed the bit about "adding scherana's guides over the course of the week" from last months update. i got cocky thinking id have time and then just fucked off instead of uploading them, and bc it didn't actually get done i removed that particular bullet point.

Updated 3/17/24

  • Small update

  • Corrected a few small errors site wide like weird or broken links, incorrect spelling and funky shaped boxes. now u can stop reporting them every damn week, thanks.

  • Added Dark moon's realm to the repo under Hubs, as it acts as the support and hub server for Pythia (gen3) body.

Updated 2/6/24

  • Added more to Sprout Academy.

  • Changed "Useful Sites" button on the header bar to "Useful Links" due to an oversight when i initially swapped the pages header. Its been fixed now, Sorry Rai lmao

  • Corrected the lack of capitalization on the google search link. We are now 'Elsewhere XIV" instead of "Elsewhere xiv". Oops

  • I've been fucking with the guides under Software on and off for the last week, and added a few things but I cant be assed to add them here.

Updated 1/13/24

  • added new guides/resources:

  • Eyes: Create/edit eye textures by Manapotionz

  • Penumbra Guides: Testing makeup in Penumbra by Yuria

  • Compendiums: "Replaced Eu Gpose studios by Praline" with "EU Gpose studio Directory by Nina_xiv". The old directory can be found HERE but will remain permanently archived until or if praline updates it again. Added "3D and Texture Terminology and Programs by Mond" to Misc.

  • Software: "Fastest way to learn blender by Kaizen", "Learn Blender in 20 Minutes by 3DGreenhorn"

  • Added Blender tab under Software guides

  • Eased the symptoms of Silly Goose that a few archive pages had. the issue isnt fully corrected, but they can rest now (i forgot to add desc for some of the guides. yes there are more missing. yes im going to fix it. dont get your fanny pack twisted, your Honor)

* Updated 1/7/23 *

  • Implemented site wide rework! this change is massive and changes how Elsewhere runs and functions. here are the following changes:

  • the whole site has has a visual rework from the ground up. this means that mobile is going to be a little funky, but its still functional. its recommended that you view the pages on a 16:9 monitor. This change was made to accommodate pc users, as I can only assume every one of you mod your game on pc. (har har, its a joke)

  • restricted section temporarily removed. it will be back, I wanted to focus on the archive side of things first as its more important.

  • archive pages overhauled. Ive included a cleaner and more user friendly sorting system. still no search function sorry, that's not possible right now. But i hope the new system makes it easier to find things, with key categories being broken up into smaller categories. I've limited the scrolling needed with buttons at the top. will be adding back buttons to each scroll point later when the need for it arises.

  • reworded the disclaimer page to give more information and added an FAQ to that page (no-one asked, I just don't want to answer certain questions often). Its now a general information page.

  • fixed and cleaned up the contact page, including a short but of Information on what types of things to contact me for. i kept the contact form, this way nothing gets lost in my inbox.

  • partially wrote the Newbies guide. this will be finished as time permits now that reniguide is back up and its no longer a requirement. I have big plans for it but the rework has taken priority.

  • Added "useful sites" to include useful links for modding etc. this includes site like reniguide and ktisis 101 but also discord servers, hub and support servers, and servers and links intended for learning and knowledge similar to Elsewhere. There's also a section for Dalamud plugins repositories. Use at your own risk. Plans to add sites for fishing, gathering, collection, trackers and any other 3rd party tools that I deem useful to have a place on Elsewhere.

  • Got Salty tm about paid guides and knowledge so i put that shit up for free not even in the restricted section, fuck you gardenmetal. Dont paywall knowledge gained collectively by the community. and ill do it again, try me.

  • added the "guides and resources stored Elsewhere" public google drive for archival purposes. if a link is broken, use the archive link and the last kept archive should be functional. This public google drive can currently be found on the archive under compendiums.

  • Took a nap.

UPDATED 11/4/23

  • Temporarily removed new user guides! theyll be back dont worry

  • Added new guides and resources to Blender, gpose, compendiums topics.

  • Added Gpose guide topic

  • scattered restricted access buttons in relevant places for easy access (look for the locks)

UPDATED 11/2/23

  • Updated Contact page to be an actual page with an actual form for submissions, reports and reaching out directly to me by email.

  • updated Dalamud guide. (still under construction.)

  • created a third-party tools page for useful websites not pertaining to aesthetic modding (under construction)

  • Updated Disclaimer and Added a FAQ (no one has asked anything, I just don't want you to ask, so I answered them before you did.)

  • Updated wording and corrected mistakes site wide
